Nice website guys.I am currently playing senior rugby in Melbourne, Australia (as a
halfback/first five), having come over from New Zealand to play. I am looking in to the
possibility of coming to America to further my rugby experiences. What opportunities are
there for someone to come over and work and play rugby for clubs, such as yourselves. If
you can help please reply to my email address.

I agree with Mike Kwedar's article in Rugby. However, as I see it, there is no
prospect whatsoever of USA Rugby ever getting it's act together sufficiently to enforce
the foreign player regulations. When Denton reached the Nationals, in '94 they made an
enormous production of matching actual green cards with faces, how come they did not do
that with Hayward last year? Also, anyone can tell whether a green card is fake or not. As
I see it, rugby in the US would be better off if there were no limits on the number of
foreigners on any team. Sure, for a while the clubs with most money and foreigners might
dominate, but then that's true now isn't it?, they're just illegal.

There has been some confusion about the date of the Western RFU Championship in
Dallas. The web sites of Rugby Magazine, Dallas Harlequins, and Aspen RFC all (now) agree
that the date is April 24-26. There are still a few reputable web sites that have the
wrong date, but I suspect the date above is the correct one.

Hey Bots why doesn't anyone ever get on here and give us grief.Maybe call us
old, fat, lazy, out of shape and slow.I might take offense to the old comment. It might make
me get off the couch to get another doughnut or something. This guest book seemed like a
great idea when you were putting it together, but noone is using it,except for Brett and
he's just spouting out another law to disregard.

Gentlemen I jumped the gun posting the IRFB ruling below. It seems that USARFU has
not decided what to do about this. As usual they are afraid to make a decision. I suggest
you wear headgear and taped pads if you want to and make the referee on the day decided.

The IRB has finally made a decision regarding protective gear. LAW 4. Players
dress. The law as written has been the subject of widespread infringement by unions at all
levels of play. This has created a situation in which the use of headgear and padding has
been allowed by some member unions of the IRB in varying degrees. To prevent this
situation from arising as a problem the IRB has caved in to the following extent. The
power brokers of big cash rugby and TV in the southern hemisphere got their way. Big
surprise. Players will not wear any item which might cause injury to themselves or any
other player (referee escape clause). Shoulder Padding: Optimum, Proline, Rugby Tech,
Silver Fern, Valpro and Vulkan. The above padding, now approved, would be permitted if it
were not an undergarment!!? All this means is if you buy some 2" tape and wind it
around where the sleeves stop on your biceps and around where it stops at the bottom of
your rib cage, it has now become attached to your body. This is legal as written under Law
4 (1) third bullet point. Scrum Caps: Canterbury, Gilbert and Rhino. Be aware that
referees will not announce the changes yet, but are directed to allow them to slip in as
of now, if you ask. Refs are directed to keep a sharp eye out check during the boot check.
Keep in mind two important things. Some referees may not be aware or just want to be a
prick about it and law 6 (5)..."the referee is the sole judge of fact and of
law." If he says no it's no, but that should not happen with north Texas referees. In
closing. This may not be a problem at the level your club plays, however beware of the
screaming kamikaze with a brain bucket on. This is most likely to be at the collegiate
level. All of us, both player and referee, must watch out for such morons. Also, do not
attempt to use a scrum cap to aid in the cover of a bleeding head wound. As for shoulder
pads taped on, this is clearly more inclined towards protection to the wearer and for
some, one step closer to rugby league.

Simon,
I'd much rather write about (and remember) a 26-25 victory over Wales OTC than write about
the two losses. The Girdlestone tournament was a fiasco. Hats off to Wales OTC for winning
it, though.
