I`m next in line to congratulate all of my boys on stepping up and stepping on the naysayers. How I would love to get another taste. I think each of you is up to challenge of taking on whoever your opposite number may be and if not, I believe the next in line will step up right behind you. Best of luck in the quarters. I`m a longshot on making the trip but I`ll be with you on gameday all the same. Dan.

It seems you are doing well this year in spite of "players" like Darrin Barner!! How do you get players as ugly as he?
Darrin - thanks for all your emails - I wish you and Brenda all the best in the future! Takk for sist! Norway isn`t the same without you! Hope you two enjoyed it!

I can attest to the integrity of Dromore RFC. While touring in Ireland with Cowtown United, we met Dromore in a match that was the highlight of the tour. Dromore played a social side of players from their 1998 Texas tour, and managed a 19-13 victory over us. I saw a list of their first division cup match results in their clubhouse, and was highly impressed with the level of rugby they play. They could have put out a good side and absolutely smoked us, but rather were gentlemen, gave us a great match, and hosted us well into the next morning. Every tour member will remember how much fun I had that night (In the bus: "Someone find a bag! Rooster is going to puke!") One of the best evenings in a long list of great evenings on that tour.

I guess.but you guys showed great sportsmanship! From my "Rugby challenged" perspective you guys made it
look like men against boys! I can certainly see why you are Champions!
It was great fun to watch, I wish I lived closer so I could see every game! I especially enjoyed watching Harvey!
I swear I saw sparks coming outta his cleats! (Of course I enjoyed #3 too!!)

I also played with Ft. Worth back in the season of 1984-1985 when Sir Peter Raven coached. I had previously played for Sir Peter when he coached the Dallas RFC. The year that I played for Ft. Worth was one of my most enjoyable years that I played rugby, although I can`t remember actually winnig to many games. There were 2 Westbrooks on that particular club, the other Westbrook being "Brain Dead". Is he still alive ? What made the team so much fun to play with was the fact that the social events were as important as the games played. What a great concept. My congratulations to one and all associated with the current team. I have observed with pride the transformation the Ft. Worth RFC has made over the past few years. If you have a reunion for past members, please let one and all former members aware. I would love to swap stories with anyone who might want to hear. Cheers and best wishes to your upcoming matches. The Pedestrians are UNDEFEATED and UNSCORED UPON in the last 4 years, while the TCU Horned Frogs are returning from a successful tour of Austin`s Sixth Street. Counting this week you have 12 weeks until Nationals. If you haven`t stopped lifting weights - DON`T. Running and other CV work is important but you shouldn`t exclude the other components of fitness. At least lift 1-2 times per week at 85%

Best Wishes to the present club........ Normally one would say "Best of Luck" ... there is no such thing as LUCK for winners. LUCK is for loosers, they use it as a scapegoat. LUCK is used by the looser........ describing an opportunity combined with preparation (skills, training, fitness)seized by the WINNERS to determine the outcome of the match. So...... Best Wishes..........

I, also, played for Fort Worth in its "glory days" during the mid 70`s. Boy, did we have a squad then: the master, Loy Raupe; with tough and quick, Jack Graves; fast Eddie Farmer; "in your face" Pat Patterson; others, like lightning quick Sam; Doc. George; Cowboy Don; Military man, Frank; big nasty Lucious; and, of course, "Iron man" Stevie Utter. Speaking of Steve, we would go to his house with our wives and girlfriends and Steve would hand out his bongos and other rhythm instruments to us, he would have us improvising and `jamming`, a great time had by all. More importantly, we would go to the San Antonio 7`s (this was the major 7`s tournament at the time) and beat all of Texas teams like they were school kids. Great team, great group of guys.

Good Luck to the present squad

I, too, played for FW during it`s proud past. Back then, Warren Tucker and Tonga Makawe would brush off opposition tackles and give clean ball to some white-hot foreigners in the backs to run clear underneath the posts. That was an awesome thing to behold. We also had a coach who worked tirelessly and would work the team just as hard. Even more importantly, so many guys were hungry. Starving for a chance to get on the pitch and best the opposition. Each training session they were ready to work hard so that there were no excuses on match days. The forwards were physical, punishing, and relentless. What can I say, everybody on those championships wanted it REAL bad. Somebody please let me know if the hunger is there this year. I hope so. The bitter taste of defeat at the end of the season goes down better when you`ve starved yourself for a taste of something better instead getting fattened up on easy meals.

I also played for Ft. Worth in the "old days", that is to say from Fall 72 thru Fall 73 while a student at TCU. I went to one practice then an outdoor party at Randy Satterwhite`s ranch and I was hooked. We had some great times and did remarkably well considering that we travelled with 12-15 players max most of the time. Our match with UTPB in Odessa was played on a pitch that had yet to see its first blade of grass and was refereed by their coach who gave us one of the worst "home jobs" that I can remember. Needless to say we lost the match but not for the lack of effort. I recall our greatest triumph to be a victory in the Ft. Sill tournament in early Fall `73. The addition of two Irish male nurses, one that coached and one that played improved our game tremendously in one season. I still have a pewter mug that was given to me by the club when I returned to New York after finishing at TCU. I still view your website regularly and enjoy reading the reports of recent matches. Unfortunately my current club is not quite in your league, which is easy to understand when you find out that three or four of the first XV are myself and two or three other players who should have retired long ago. If you ever have the chance as a club to make it to NY for the Saranac Lake Can-Am Tournament (Austin came a few years ago), you will find it well worth the trip and the competition includes some of the best clubs in the eastern US and Canada. If any of you ever get up to Central New York, it would be a pleasure to have a pint or two and talk about Fort Worth RFC then and now. A friend of mine here in Syracuse still hears from Loy Raupe every now and then-we hope to get him to come up and play for our over 40 team in the Saranac Lake Tournament this summer where we are defending Consolation bracket champs. Good luck this spring!

There are many times in our lives when we have to decided what we want. Sometimes it falls into place, sometimes we have to work at it. This year we have the talent, but now we must reach down and find the proper intensity. Ruck, run, tackle, etc. these are our goals, and our jobs. This is how National Championships are won. With basic rugby and with desire and intensity. It is in every single person on the club, now is the time to let it out. The season starts tomorrow, and we control our own destiny. Ask yourself, "How bad do you want it?" Let`s go boys, this is what it is all about, Good luck and lets get em!

I never got the chance to properly thank the club for introducing me to this most honorable sport. I played in the scrum during the fall 1972 and spring 1973 seasons during my first year at TCU. I remember Randy Satterwhite, who held such great parties at his ranch, Lloyd the Ft. Worth fireman and the SAC bomber pilot stationed at Carswell who on occasion had to fly to places in SE Asia that we weren`t supposed to know about. I especially remember the matches against Ft. Sill, Dallas and the tournaments. Particularly the 73 Galveston when about 6-8 of us stayed in a dinky motel room and the match against UTPB in Odessa. I still have my Pearl beer mug from another tournament. I had a great time learning the various scrum positions, the songs but meeting people from all over (especially filling in on other teams) who shared a single love for the game was the best part. Thank you for allowing me to take part in a marvelous adventure that I will always treasure.
